At the start of every new ranking cycle, normally around the end of December and the beginning of January, these trials headed way within every tribe across the globe. Of course the Tribe Grundar held the most popular and elaborate trials every year. At Grundar all races were welcomed to participate in the trials. But only those signed up as True Sutars gain their Rank Beads. All other "Sutars" would get a participation bead. The trials always started as a celebration where the Sutars, presented themselves in their most fancy ceremonial garb. This happened on the sunset of the day before the trials begin. Sutars are encouraged to get to know their competitors, and even form alliances. A great feast is held and every Sutar is marked with an elaborate face-paint that signified their birth rank. The next day the trails began. These trials included both physical and mental capabilities. The Event goes on for three full days and at the end Sutars were judged by the tribe council and given their new earned rank.

In present day the Trials of Sterne are done a bit differently, as the tribes have disappeared and are in ruins waiting to be found. The current generation of changelings are looking for a new way. A way of unity that will bring about no ranks and division, but still test and challenge them physically and mentally. They will earn their Totems, formally know as beads, through set challenges that represent each Zodiac with their final golden bead being the Aquarius Totem. Those who earn their Aquarius standing will have an honorability within the changeling society, but are not above anyone in any way. They are those who took up the challenge to honor their ancestors and the lost of the changeling ways and to choose new life over death. Vowing never to coware in the shadows ever again.
